Building Your Web Site

Before having your site built, you need to decide what you want your domain name to be. Your domain name is what will be used in the web address of your site exp: www.mydomain.com. It is best if you have a easy to remember domain name. Try to
stay away from different spelling such as dezyns or flowers2bemade.com etc.,

.com is the easiest to remember. If your site is going to be a charitable organization .org is best. It is also best if you purchase your domain name the same place that you plan to have your site hosted. This prevents having to pay money to transfer your domain name to your hosting provider.

You also need to decide who you want to provide hosting for your site. A web host is who makes it possible for your site to be on the internet. Web host provide domain names as well.

  Once you have decided on a domain name and host. Ask yourself the following questions. Please write down the answer to these questions or let the designer know your intentions for your site.

1. What kind of site do you want?

•  A practical site? This would require content(text or images) such as details, pictures or information about you, your business or family.

•  A ecommerce site or charitable organization? This would require content such as pictures of the items you wish to sell as business owner for example: (information about what you are selling) Example: This item is a spring bouquet and sells for 25$. A ecommerce site also requires you to have a Pay Pal account.

2 . What color scheme do you want for your site?

a)What type of background?

•  White

•  A certain color

•  Small flowers and/or other items tiled in the background

b) What type of text do you want?

•  What color?

•  What size text do you want and where do you want the sizes displayed?

•  What style font?

•  Do you want a certain header?

•  What kind of buttons do you want?

c) What type of layout do you want?

Go to different sites that are similar to the site you want created and jot down certain things you like about that site. You may also give the url to the designer and the site will be created in a similar layout for you

3 . Do you want flash animation on you site?

4. Do you want links to provide your customers with directions to your business?

5 . Do you have a logo?

Tip : If you already have a business card and logo it is a nice touch of continuity if you have the same or about the same look and feel of your card, ads etc.
